The Basics of Poker

In a poker game, a player must call every time the other player raises. The amount of chips a player must call depends on the pot limit. The maximum amount of chips a player may raise is fourteen. If the table limit is higher than that, a player may bet more than fourteen times the pot size. However, the maximum amount a person may call is determined by the table limit. This rule applies to all forms of poker, including cash games.

The game of poker is played by players who are in the same position. They are dealt two cards face down and one card face up. At the beginning of each round, the player with the better of the two cards is called the ante. After that, the betting phase starts between the newly dealt cards. During the draw phase, the players reveal their cards and the best hand wins the pot. If the other player has the best hand, he wins the pot.

Unlike most card games, poker requires two players. In addition, the rules of the game vary from variant to variant. In community card poker, players must match their hole cards with their community cards in order to win the game. Generally, the game is played with five players at a time. To begin a poker game, a player must buy in and receive the chips for each player. Typically, each player must contribute the same amount as their opponents.
